Roger W. Young grew up in the rural South with an enduring love of the outdoors. The beauty of natural surroundings is a constant theme of his work. His art is focused on capturing the places and times that help create an awareness of one's place in the fabric of life.
Roger completed his academic work with advanced degrees from Memphis University. His style is developed from a lifetime of study of master artist's work and self-discovery. Roger applies multiple layers of paint and glaze that create an internal luminescence in his works. His philosophy emphasizes the emotional and transcendental nature of art, painting with a limited intrusion of academic constraint.
Roger maintains studios in the North Carolina coast near Topsail Island and recently opened a studio in the San Juan Mountains near Creede, Colorado. When not in the studio he can be found outside searching for his next inspiration.
